DANNY
WAGGONER & LESLIE HODGES
We teach
the social version of Argentine Tango, one of the world's most sensual
partner dances. In contrast to the stage version of tango, the social
dance is entirely improvised. As the man navigates the floor, moving
with the flow of other couples along the line of dance, he provides
his partner with clearly indicated opportunities for steps and figures
of varying size, tempo and energy. The unspoken dialogue as partners
respond to one another's expressive interpretations and energy through
the connection of their bodies has led to the description of this dance
as "a conversation without words".
We discovered
Argentine Tango in 1995 and have been dancing it as often as possible
ever since. During this time we have studied with some of the best teachers
of the dance. We have spent our last three vacations in Buenos Aires,
the birthplace of the tango, dancing with the people there and deepening
our knowledge and appreciation of the culture and the dance.
Because
of the pleasure we have found in learning and dancing tango, we wish
to share it with anyone who would like to learn. We teach a weekly class
on Tuesday nights in downtown Decatur at Several Dancers Core Studio.
Over the last few years we have helped to create an active group of
social tango dancers who get together to dance several times a week.
This group is made up of a diversity of ages, nationalities and backgrounds,
joined together by a common passion for the Argentine Tango.
